ABMP (Associated Bodywork & Massage Professionals)
Associated Bodywork & Massage Professionals (ABMP) is a leading professional membership organization serving massage therapists, bodyworkers, students, educators, and industry professionals with insurance, continuing education, business resources, and professional support.
Colorado Digital partnered with ABMP's parent organization, Professional Assist Corporation, on a large-scale modernization of its digital platform. The engagement centered on migrating ABMP from Drupal 7 to Drupal 9 while addressing a complex ecosystem of shared functionality, custom modules, member-specific experiences, third-party integrations, and content.
Rather than approaching the project as a simple CMS upgrade, Colorado Digital worked alongside ABMP's internal development team to evaluate the existing architecture, modernize legacy functionality, establish Drupal development standards, migrate content and data, and create a flexible foundation capable of supporting ABMP's evolving digital services.

Project Goals
The primary goal was to modernize ABMP's Drupal platform while preserving the sophisticated functionality its members and internal teams relied upon.
Key project goals included:
- Migrate the ABMP website from Drupal 7 to Drupal 9 and establish a sustainable foundation for future Drupal development.
- Analyze the shared architecture supporting ABMP and four additional related web properties to identify opportunities for reusable code and a more efficient migration strategy.
- Preserve and modernize member-specific and gated content experiences for students, graduates, educators, employers, practitioners, and other user groups.
- Migrate existing site content, structured data, views, forms, and Drupal configuration while minimizing disruption to the organization.
- Evaluate legacy custom modules and determine which functionality should be migrated, rewritten, consolidated, or retired.
- Maintain critical integrations with ABMP's membership and business systems, including NetForum and existing Angular applications.
- Develop a modern Drupal theme based on ABMP's design system and branding.
- Improve the underlying Drupal architecture and development practices to reduce technical debt and simplify future maintenance.
- Create an efficient collaborative workflow between Colorado Digital and ABMP's internal development team using Agile sprints, QA, code review, and user acceptance testing.
Project Results
The project transformed ABMP's aging Drupal implementation into a more modern and maintainable digital platform while addressing years of accumulated custom functionality and technical complexity.
Colorado Digital established the Drupal 9 architecture, migrated core site structure and content, developed a new site-wide theme, and worked through legacy modules and integrations to determine the appropriate modernization path for each feature. Member-specific experiences and gated content were incorporated into the new architecture while the development teams collaborated on simplifying the site's persona and membership logic.
A major benefit of the engagement was the creation of a cleaner technical foundation. Rather than automatically reproducing every legacy feature, Colorado Digital and ABMP evaluated existing functionality and intentionally retired unnecessary components, moved appropriate functionality into newer applications, and rebuilt features where a modern Drupal implementation provided a better long-term solution. This included decisions around Angular applications, membership functionality, content migration, custom modules, and user personas.
The work also established a reusable migration strategy for PAC's broader family of websites. By addressing shared architecture and code during the ABMP migration, the organization gained a stronger technical framework for maintaining and modernizing its related digital properties.
The result was more than a CMS upgrade: ABMP gained a modernized platform, improved development practices, a refreshed presentation layer, and a more sustainable architecture for delivering digital services to its professional membership community.
